ONCOLOGY IMAGING

WHAT IS AN ONCOLOGY IMAGING?

Oncology imaging refers to taking images of a patients body using any or all of our imaging technology to assess and monitor the behaviour and spread of cancer

HOW TO PREPARE

  • You should have a referral letter from your doctor/specialist/oncologist
  • Cross sectional imaging (CT and MRI), requires authorisation from your medical scheme, so please come in early so that our admin staff can assist you in obtaining this
  • Very commonly, oncology patients having a CT scan of the abdomena nd pelvis, will be required to drink oral contrast to be able to delineate the intestinal loops better. This takes about 1-1.5 hours, so please arrive for your appointment well before your appointment to be have this done timeously.
  • If on a medical aid, please ensure that you are registered onto their oncology programme so that the examination may be funded by the medical scheme’s separate Oncology Benefit. Our friendly admin staff will assist you in obtaining authorisation for your procedure/s.
  • Please note, that you do remain responsible for any shortfalls or non-payments by your medical scheme.
  • Private patients are required to settle the account on the day of the procedure
  • If you have previous images and results available, please bring this along with you on the day of your examination. (Not applicable if previous imaging was performed at our practice/s)
  • Depending on the procedure you will be having, kindly refer to the necessary dedicated imaging service profiles under the services tab for more detail

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Your referring doctor/oncologist(cancer doctor), may refer you to have an xray, an ultrasound, mammogram, CT or MRI scan
  • Depending on the procedure/s requested, appropriate investigations to investigate and monitor your cancer will be performed
  • Please refer to the dedicated imaging service profiles under the services tab more more detail
